Paraguay Visa Requirements: Entry Guide for All Nationalities (2026)

Published 27 April 2026 · 6 min read

Paraguay operates a relatively open entry policy for most nationalities. Whether you need a visa depends on your citizenship and the purpose of your visit.

Who Can Enter Paraguay Visa-Free?

A large number of nationalities can enter Paraguay without a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Visa-free countries include:

  • European Union — all EU member state nationals
  • United States — US citizens can enter visa-free
  • United Kingdom — British citizens can enter visa-free
  • Canada — Canadian citizens can enter visa-free
  • Australia — Australian citizens can enter visa-free
  • New Zealand — visa-free
  • Japan — visa-free
  • South Korea — visa-free
  • Most Latin American countries — visa-free under regional agreements

The majority of Western passport holders can arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asuncion and be admitted as tourists with no advance visa required.

Who Needs a Visa?

Some nationalities require a visa to enter Paraguay. This typically includes citizens of certain African, Middle Eastern, and Asian countries where bilateral agreements are not in place. Check the most current requirements with the Paraguayan consulate in your country before travelling.

Tourist Stay Duration

The standard tourist visa-free stay is 90 days. This is a rolling 90-day allowance — not 90 days per year.

Paraguay does not have a formal visa overstay system with automatic exit bans, but overstaying is technically illegal and can complicate future residency applications.

Entry at Asuncion Airport

Entry through Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asuncion is the most common point of entry. You will need:

  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months remaining validity recommended)
  • Return or onward ticket (technically required but often not checked)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (rarely requested in practice)

Entering During Your Residency Application

If you are applying for Paraguay residency, you typically enter on a tourist visa and file your residency application during the 90-day tourist stay. Your lawyer or service provider guides you through this timing. Once your application is filed, your legal status is protected while it is in process.
